This is a link to a video I saw on Upworthy. It tells the story of the SOIL project in Haiti. SOIL identified a problem, unsanitary water and land, and found a solution, compost. They have set up hundreds of outhouses all over Haiti that collect solid human waste. These facilities are outfitted to collect the solid waste; the organization then hires and trains previously unemployed people to transport the solid waste to facilities where more locals have been taught the composting process. This product is used to transform the barren soils to rich planting areas where locals can grow their own food.

It is so inspiring to see such innovation and problem solving. The people of SOIL are transforming the excess of human waste from a cause of millions of deaths, into something that will help Haitians connect to their earth and nourish themselves.
